Photos from my recent visit to Suzuki Morihisa Studio, in Morioka, Japan. This is a renowned, fifteen-generation family studio producing the highest quality ‘nanbu tekki’ cast ironware by hand, as it has since the earliest of Edo times. Demand for Suzuki Morihisa works is such that kettles must be commissioned several years in advance of delivery. Look for a full story on this 400 year-old artisanal producer in the fall.
